THE “BURRUS” LARGE-PART COVER TO GLASGOW4 cents Black on Magenta, position 1, with initials EDW of postal official Wight, fresh colour and large margins all around, cancelled by DEMERARA JY8 1856 circular datestamp on large part-cover addressed to the UK, same postmark repeated on reverse together with hexagonal GLASGOW AUG 9 1856 arrival pmk, cover taxed 6d for maritime mail as these stamps were not valid overseas, a superb item from a prestigious collection (SG £25’000)Provenance : Burrus, 26 November 1963 auction, lot 83
